Suspension link arms
The robotic welding of lower suspension link arms for pick-up trucks.
The use of solid wire in this particular application resulted in a high level of spatter, frequent production stops to clean the welding gun, and substantial post weld cleaning of welded components.
By using OK Tubrod 14.11-1.4mm metal-cored wire, the number of stops for gun cleaning has dropped dramatically. The full cycle time for welding a suspension link arm has decreased by 27%, enabling to increase the number of produced parts per hour by 27%. The production cost per piece has decreased by 9%, despite the substantially higher purchasing price of the cored-wire.
